AHU Supports
Contractors should be aware that when supporting mechanical units such as AHU’s on flat roofs, sometimes considerable pressure is brought to bear on the structure of the roof. This can be very damaging to the roof's surface and any improper fixing can also compromise the integrity of the roof, affecting insulation and waterproofing. In order to guard against these occurrences you should consult the structural engineer on your project who will advise you as to the maximum loading per foot.
Sure-Foot supporting frames and support feet are lightweight and flexible in their design and application. The feet and frames have been designed to support Air Handling Units (AHU) on flat roofs. With Sure-Foot you are not restricted to a one size fits all solution, with our modular framework, you can extend the frames in any direction to suit your specific requirements. Sure-Foot also supply a base only unit which can be used in conjunction with standard steel struts.
The Sure-Foot support system resolves many of the issues that face contractors and M&E engineers when it comes to fixing AHUs onto flat roofs. Since the Sure-Foot system is not mechanically fixed to the roof, there is no risk of the roof membrane being penetrated. Sure-Foot is simply placed onto the surface of the flat roof and then, using standard strut, the framework for the support of the Air Handling Unit is constructed on top of it.
Sure-Foot’s threaded leg assembly enables you to achieve the exact heights necessary to ensure the services are kept level and also enables you to achieve optimum roof clearance levels. This means that certain future roof work can be carried out without the need to turn off your building’s services. The secondary steel fixings or penetrative plinths used in other building services support systems require a big foot print, taking up more space on your roof, Sure-Foot’s supports take up a much smaller area allowing you more roof top space and better access.
Sure-Foot support systems provide a cost effective and flexible AHU support framework. AHU’s can either be supported on modular frames or directly on the supporting feet. Ductwork and cable trays can also be supported using our standard H prop kit. The H prop kit consists of the Sure-Foot system plus the H frame bracket enabling you to create your own H frame.
Condenser Supports
For a quick, flexible and cost effective way to support condenser units and other building services units on flat roofs, choose the Sure-Foot base frame and extender frame modular support system. Complete system in a box that takes only 4 minutes to build The system consists of four Sure-Foot feet, four Sure-Foot threaded leg assemblies, two base frame beams and two base frame sliding beams. This will support two split air conditioning condensers or one VRV or VRF condenser unit.
The Sure-Foot base can be extended to support any number of units allowing for the support of multiple condenser banks. The extender kit consists of two feet, two Sure-Foot adjustable leg assemblies, two extender frame beams and two extender frame sliding beams. Just one extender kit will accommodate up to four split air conditioning condenser units or two VRV/VRF condenser units.
A good stock of the base frames and extender frames is essential to allow you the flexibility of knowing that you are able to carry out a complete installation, from start to finish without the down time involved in waiting for component parts to be sourced or produced by third party suppliers. A flat roofing contractor or mechanical and electrical engineer using the Sure-Foot system can speed up project sign off with no snagging issues, safe in the knowledge that every piece of the Sure-Foot building services support system is constructed to the same high standards as the first, therefore eliminating the necessity for a further site visit.
There is no risk of penetration to the roof membrane when the Sure-Foot system is installed and the flexibility of its construction means that support systems can be designed and if necessary reworked on site, quickly and easily.
The height of the condensers needs to be accurately aligned with the height other mechanical units and this is made quick and simple with the Sure-Foot threaded leg system. This system also provides easily adjustable roof clearance which reduces the need for future decommissioning of air conditioning condensers.
In raising the condensers from roof level, the Sure- Foot services support system takes up a smaller area than secondary steel fixings or penetrative struts.
Cable Tray Supports
The Sure-Foot H prop kit or alternatively, the Sure-Foot only option, provides a stable big foot support for your cable trays. Cable trays can be aligned with condensers and other mechanical units, reducing any stress and wear on cables and when cables are supported, away from the roof surface, there is no risk of damage either to the cable or the roof. Also, cable tray supports can be installed without any cross co-ordination with roofing contractors who would normally have to apply waterproofing to support curbs.
